Mizuno Endure 24

Also known as the ‘Glastonbury for runners’, Mizuno Endure 24 is a true celebration of running that welcomes solo runners, pairs and teams of all abilities to battle against the clock for 24 hours of glorious trail running.

The Mizuno Endure 24 route is a 5 mile loop and most large teams will rotate runners after every lap. In an 8-person team you can expect to run anything between 3 and 6 times (15-30 miles) depending on your average lap times and that is dependent on the team staying physically fit and not dropping out as the miles get tougher!

In 2017 Pro:Direct entered two teams of runners into the 8 person mixed gender category and brought competition winners, our staff and Pro:Direct Run Club runners together to be teammates for the first time. Although they came away setting a new course record and a new lap record (Ben Parkes 27:21) the biggest win was making new friends and sharing such a fantastic experience.

So the focus for 2018 was exactly that, to bring some new people together, run hard and enjoy the process once more and to finish the 24 hour festival of running knowing we had each put in 100% of what could offer. Lucky for us we were blessed with good weather throughout the weekend with some very light rain and mild fog in the night.

Top 5 tips for taking on the Mizuno Endure 24 team relay:

  • Know your time slots

    Once everyone in your team has run once you will know how long it takes to get through everyone and be able to roughly plot your next running times. If you are aware of who’s running before you then you can use them as a guide for getting yourself ready too, don’t leave it too late as you don’t want your team mate pointlessly waiting around the handover area

  • Refuel and hydrate after every run

    It sounds very simple but it’s so important to refuel after every run, even if you don’t feel like it at 3am in the morning your body will thank you for it by your final lap. Over a 5 mile loop you could be burning 500-750 calories and if you are going to run up to 6 of those you will need to stay on top of your nutrition.   • Sleep as much as possible

    Some teams decided to let their stronger members do a double lap through the night so the rest of the team could get some extra sleep. Most of the competitive teams however will barely sleep, possibly a few hours if they are lucky so if you get the chance to get your head down, take it!

  • Take spare running kit

    Weather can play a huge factor in how much kit you will need. You will need spare clothing and plenty of socks, shorts, running tops. We highly recommend you consider Mizuno’s trail running shoes to wear for this event.   • Stay positive

    When you are running with a team of people your mentality can have a huge impact on your team mates. Keep smiling, keep encouraging and enjoy the process!
