Join London based runner Oliver Hooson and On and enjoy a whistle stop tour through some of the best running routes London has to offer!

Taking in iconic London sights, luscious greenery to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and even a cheeky stop off for coffee and cake. What more could you want?

If you're in the city for a weekend getaway or new resident of the big smoke, try these routes out for yourself and explore London on foot!
Meet your guide, Oliver Hooson (@olvh) from Your Friendly Running Club. A Londoner (via Chester) who moved to the city 6 years ago on a whim with two friends in search of creative opportunities and a career.

“We decided to move to London and see what happened. We each had a few months’ worth of savings and it was either going to work out or it would be a great 6-month holiday. Luckily, we all found work and felt at home really quickly. London has treated me well.”
Oliver got into running a few years after his move to London, needing and to get away from the screen an escape from and digital world. In stark contrast, his weekly planning now pretty much revolves around his running, getting in 8x runs every week. Yes, that’s double run days.

“I was never the athletic kid – at school I remember deliberately forgetting my PE kit. I skated a little and then tried the gym thing for a bit as I got older but when I moved to London the gym scene wasn’t really me. I didn’t do any exercise for a few years and got to the point where I needed an outlet. I turned to running in 2019 with no agenda – I just turned my phone off (no Strava) and started running for solitude. I felt the mental and physical benefits almost immediately and that was it, it had me hooked.”

Oliver may have started running for solitude and escapism but its pastries, pizza and beer that keep him going nowadays (his words in that order). After a year of delayed and cancelled races, he’s looking forward to getting back on the start line and hoping to take on his first ultramarathon.
